Cesar E. Chavez

was born March 31, 1927

SDHP on May 9, 2003 attended the Dedication of the Cesar Chavez United States Postage Stamp which officially went on sale April 23, 2003.

Cesar Chavez life as a community organizer began in 1952 when he joined the Community Service Organization, a prominent latino civil rights group. While with the CSO, Chavez coordinated voter registration drives and conducted campaigns against racial and economic discrimination primarily in the urban areas. In the late 1950,s and early 1960's chavez served as CSO's national director.

The Brochure was given to the guest that where invited and the program was great the speakers where able to shed light on the live of Cesar Chavez, and his many accomplishments. This Historical event was very informative and educational for the Students and parents and the many guest that where at Cesar Chavez High School. Mr. Jamie De La Isla Keynote speaker spoke on how HISD has in just a few short years named Schools in the Houston area after some great Hispanic leaders like our ancestor Juan N. Seguin who as he said worked to see the little man have their basic human rights. Just like Cesar Chavez worked for the Farm workers to see that they where treated fairly and with dignity our Hispanic people have always been the back bone of our society along with other cultures who have made the United States the great nation that we are.
